If you multitask a lot, I would suggest a dual core processor, such as the Intel Core 2 Duo. Get the best processor your budget will allow and at least 2-4GB’s of RAM for best performance

Dell Outlet has a lot of new and refurbished laptops for cheap. Check out the Inspiron line of notebooks if your not a gamer. If you do play a few games here and there, I would look at the Studios or XPS laptops.

HP also has some nice offerings, like the DV5T.

If you look online, you might be able to find coupon codes for HP or Dell giving you a better discount

also take a look at xoticpc.com

They have Sager and Asus laptops, also good brands to choose from.

    Sony FW11E
    16.4″ Widescreen @ 16:9 (1600×900)
    Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.26GHz
    3GB RAM
    250GB HDD
    3x USB 2.0
    1x HDMI out, 1x VGA

Sorry don’t know price in the USA, but here in the UK it is £700.

Ei Systems 3113- I have one of these, in fact I am using it right now. Great for multi- tasking, easy to upgrade.

    Intel Celeron M430 1.73GHz
    13.3 Widescreen TFT
    256 DDRII 533 RAM (upgradable)
    Intel 943GML (Calistoga) + ICH7-M
With up to 128mb shared memory
    Supports Intel GMA 950
    40gb S-ATA HDD
    DVD-ROM/ CD-RW
    3xUSB 2.0
    TV-Out (S-Video)
    VGA-Out
    Headphone-Out, Mic-In
    10/100 Mbit LAN
    Wireless Lan b/g (WLAN)

Stylish, small, lightweight, but poor battery performance, fully charged will last just over 1 hour.
