I was meditative of removing the poor p3 box only to be the backup in box my genuine desktop goes down.

    The Pentium 3 CPU had clocks between 450 MHz to 1.4 GHz. The most you can get is a 1.4ghz CPU and it only works with DDR1 133mhz memory. IT will not support SATA hard drive in that chipset.

    By the way can you get these systems still. In my knowledge they are End of life and not sold online by any retailer.

    If you want a cheap system CPU then you can get AMD X2. They are like 40-50$ for a CPU.

    I believe the faster process they made in the P3 was a 1.4 ghz. They used either P100 or P133 memory, and where usually limited to at most 2 gb of RAM.

    Realize that the system board for such a computer is probably not going to be able to recognize anything larger than a 127 gb hard drive (and depending on the board’s BIOS, possible only 80 gb).
